Small Kitchen Designs

Small Kichen Designs

A small kitchen is one smaller than 14 square meters. If you are like many people who have a small kitchen, then the costs are not so much the problem in the design, but rather how much stuff you want to put in your kitchen and where you can place it.

A common problem with small kitchen designs is that people feel they do not have enough space in the kitchen. The solution lies in finding clever storage spaces, a good mix of natural light and mood lighting, and a careful choice of equipment. A good start is to go by the principle “less is more” and enjoy  finding out what you can fit in your kitchen.

In small kitchen designs it is a matter of seeing what room you have in your kitchen and what you can make out of it.  Small kitchen designs therefore require more creativity to find a practical layout.

Here are some ideas for small kitchen designs

1. An island in the middle of the kitchen can provide additional storage and is easily accessible from anywhere.

2. A design gallery, with tables and equipment placed to the two opposite sides of the kitchen, works very well for smaller kitchens.

3. More and more compact devices are comming on the market that are ideal for smaller kitchens. Refrigerators that are slightly shallower or a magentron cupboard which can be attached.

4. To create a eating place in the kitchen, you can use a folding table or a small round table in a corner that is easy to install. Or a countertop to the wall, for example, with two bar crutches.

5. Lighting under cabinets or under the sink will make your kitchen look bigger than it really is.

6. Use glass doors, for example combined with colored light.

7. Make your kitchen sink a little less deep for more space under the sink for storage.

8. Place the tiles diagonally. In a gallery you can use the kitchen tiles in length, this creates  a sense of space.

9. You can hang pans. This not only saves storage space in your cabinets, it also gives character to your small kitchen. In your cabinets you can make hooks and other devices to hang your utensils up. With kitchen cabinets that go up to the ceiling, use the upper shelves for things that you use less frequently.

10. A large sink is more practical than a little when washing dishes by hand.

Small kitchen designs can create a dream kitchen

Remember that most kitchens are small. In home magazines you do not find small kitchen designs, you often only see kitchens that are large and you may feel that this type of cuisine is not for.  But with a good design you are also able to create space in your kitchen with all the necessary equipment.

Even a small kitchen can be a dream kitchen.
